SUNBEAR STUDIOS AND GALLERY INSTRUCTORS, SUMMER 2013
Debra Joyce Dawson: Debra Joyce Dawson paints colorful, evocative outdoor landscapes. She travels extensively, and her paintings can serve as a painterly travelogue to India, Bhutan, England, Ireland, as well as to her more local surroundings. Her medium of choice is oil, with preparatory sketches in graphite, charcoal, pen or watercolor. Some works are small and completed en plein air; other works are larger and more complex renderings done in her studio. Her energy and delight in color, light, and shape are dazzling. But she never surrenders her subject, and each building, boat, hillside, or human figure is carefully pinned to the picture plane in the context of its surroundings. This places her in the best context of American Impressionism, whether one considers John Singer Sargent or Ohio’s own Alice Schille or Edward Henry Potthast.
Sarah Williams: Sarah Williams creates expressive three-dimensional needle felted animal sculptures, whimsical works and wearable pins. The felted designs are made from 100% wool using a barbed needle to felt the fibers together. She enjoys using a variety of wool fibers to capture the likeness and character of a favorite pet or animal.
Renon Hulet: Renon Hulet is a Utah-based oil and watercolor artist. She is a Signature Member of the Utah Watercolor Society and the Intermountain Society of Artists. She is a former member of the Ohio Watercolor Society, Ohio Plein Air Society and Central Ohio Watercolor Society. Her newest passion is, of course, using the iPad as an artist tool.
Lizz Beck: Lizz Beck has been creating for as long as she can remember, but beading is a fairly new form of art for her. Lizz enjoys many forms of beading including bead embroidery, french beading and even kumihimo. She has a tendency to never follow a pattern completely, and find ways to jazz up boring ones or modernize overly gaudy ones. Lizz likes to explore new and interesting ways of combining techniques and stitches to come up with something new and different. Her colors tend toward earthy or deep tones of green, purple and brown or bronze.
Gail Maraman: For the past 15 years, Gail has had the opportunity to experience the gentle nature of sheep and the endless benefits of their wool on her farm, Windy Crest, in Granville, Ohio. One such benefit she discovered is handmade felt. Gail has learned how to transform the wool into felt and she designs, produces, and sells hand-felted items ranging from whimsical toys to practical clothing.
She also enjoys teaching the art/craft of feltmaking to students of all ages. Feltmaking is easy to learn and little effort and time is required to make handmade felt. Gail offers feltmaking workshops and demonstrations. Material lists and workshop descriptions in detail are offered upon request
Kathy Anderson: Kathy is a graduate of Denison University, a Cincinnati, Ohio, native, and a 38 year resident of Licking County. She recently married artist Tony Reynolds, a woodworker, and both have their studios at their home in Granville. Kathy has painted off and on since she was nine years old. In 2004 Kathy left her position as mediator for Licking County domestic court to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming an artist. Since then, she has been in numerous shows, including shows at The Works, Kraner Nature Center, Weasel Boy Brewery and Argyle Photography as well as shows at Bryn Du Mansion, the Licking County Arts, OSUN, and the Dawes Arboretum. She has also been juried into various art festivals including the Granville Art and Wine Affair, the Westerville Music and Art Festival, the Dublin Art Festival and the Indian Hill Art Show. She is currently displaying her work at Gallery M in Granville, the Mansfield Art Center, the Ohio Historical Society, the Licking County Arts and The Bella Galleria in Traverse City, Michigan.
Meredith Martin: Meredith is an experienced pastel artist, has taught pastel painting for over 8 years, and is the owner of Sunbear Studios and Gallery. She has shown and sold her work throughout the country, has won a number of awards and is an experienced adult educator. She has a degree in Fine Arts and Education from Otterbein College and an MA in Education from The Ohio State University.

Deirdre Pifer: Deirdre has shown her earrings, necklaces, bookmarks, pins and more at Sunbear for several years. You may have seen her fascinating demonstrations of lampwork beadmaking. She has created incredibly colorful, original glass beads which are the stars of her designs.

Kurt and Lorry Wendling: Kurt and Lorry have been creating stained glass art for over 10 years and have been a Sunbear Gallery favorite for much of that time. They work together as a team combining their artistic and technical skills. Kurt and Lorry enjoy sharing their techniques with aspiring stained glass artists to help them have a frustration free experience.
